Matthew 4: What to do when you feel tempted? 3 Things to Remember
Have you ever felt like you were so alone, that the entire world was against you? Have you ever felt like just when you were on the right path, making the right choices, doing good for others, something, just something was out to get you? If you have ever felt that way, you are not alone. When I decided to build a magazine for my community, to challenge, strengthen and support my community, I faced every obstacle you could imagine. I spent many mornings and nights, in my war room, praying to God to do something to help me. I cried more than I ever did in years. I spent every dime, went $20,000 in debt, felt like a failure, had no time for anything but work, and couldn’t take comfort in anything in my life. This was the hardest thing I’d ever done. This was harder than going through my divorce. This was harder than helping my son save his life. I worried about everything. I lost every security I ever thought I had. The only thing I could do was to remember these 3 things:
It is normal to feel like the world is caving in on you, and it will pass, if you press on.
Remember that when Jesus was to begin His ministry. Satan tempted Him as well.
If you trust that God has your back, use His word to claim your promises, you will push through.
Matthew chapter 4 is a reminder to us that we should live in this world being led by the Spirit. We must be aware of temptations that will come when we are at our weakest. We should also know that when we rise above temptation, legions of Angels come to bless us. It is normal for the world to feel like it’s caving in–when you start a new road, or begin to improve.
Matthew 4:10 says, “Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: “Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” Here, Jesus is on the mountaintop preparing for His mission which was to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As he was fasting, Satan came to tempt Him. Here’s a perfect example of how just when you are ready to take the next step at advancement–whether it’s being a better person, daughter, son, mother, father, all forces come at you. Matthew chapter 4 explains how we can exactly get what we want. When we are faced with obstacles, Satan will come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) . Don’t blame Satan, but know that there are forces in this world that fight against us, “…put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10) and prepare yourself for that. Do what you need to do in the natural world, and what you can, but trust that God will work everything out in the spiritual world.
